Dull Diabetic Skin? Here’s How to Fix it.

Diabetes comes with major complications and a seemingly endless list of symptoms. One of those symptoms can be dry skin. Don’t let that get you down, though! The more you understand this symptom and how to treat it, the more you can kiss it goodbye!

Let’s start!

Poor Circulation = Dry Skin

Diabetics with uncontrolled glycemia are notorious for having poor circulation. While this may not seem like an obvious effect of diabetes, it is actually the most common (and dangerous) side effect of all. Unstable glucose levels damage blood vessels to the point that they don’t work quite as well as they are intended to. When your blood vessels do not work properly, they cannot transport blood throughout the body in an efficient manner.

This, in and of itself, is poor circulation.

How does this lead to dry skin? The skin, like any organ, depends on a fresh supply of blood all throughout the day and night. Blood brings the nutrients to the surface so that it can heal and repair itself, revealing fresh, supple skin each day. If the blood is unable to reach the skin, it is essentially starving from the inside-out.

The first way to handle this is to get your blood glucose under control to prevent damage to your blood vessels. Also, be sure to fuel your body plenty of vitamins and minerals so that your blood actually has something to feed to your skin. Still looking for an extra polish? Try an indulgent outer treatment that can help heal and slough off the unhealthy layer of skin that can often times look dull and dead (because it is).

Lemon Rosemary Sea Salt Scrub

Lemon essential oil is incredibly nourishing to the skin, leaving it soft and supple after using. Rosemary essential oil helps balance the oil in your skin and hair so that your skin can be properly moisturized after use. The two oils also have excellent antibacterial properties to help fight infection, acne, and environmental damage.

Sea salt provides a boost of minerals to the skin while sloughing away at the dead layers. Coconut oil is an excellent source of medium chain fatty acids, which help plump up the skin cells and promote healing and regeneration.

Combine all of these ingredients today for a powerful yet gentle face and body scrub!

Ingredients

  • 5-10 drops of lemon essential oil
  • 5-10 drops of rosemary essential oil
  • 1/4 cup of dead sea salt
  • 3-4 tablespoons of coconut oil

Directions

Mix everything together. Gently rub on your face and/or body. Let it sit on your skin for 5-10 minutes. Rinse off in the shower. Pat dry with a towel and then try not to sniff yourself for the rest of the day!
