If you can’t live without that morning cup of coffee, here is another reason to not miss it. Studies show that caffeine can minimize death risk in women with diabetes.
Both coffee and tea have a myriad of health benefits. New findings, however, show a link between caffeine consumption and the risk of death amongst diabetic women.
The study, which lasted over an 11-year period, showed that women who drank the equivalent of one cup of coffee daily had a 50% less chance of dying prematurely than women who did not drink. Those who drank double the amount of coffee had a 66% lower risk of death.
Alternatively, women who drank tea for their caffeine were 80% less likely to die from cancer. This is in comparison to women who didn’t receive any caffeine from their tea.
Further study is warranted, however, as researchers cannot say for certain if the benefits are directly from caffeine. Or, from other compounds that are in the caffeine-containing drinks.
A separate study has concluded that increased coffee consumption may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. So, lowering the risk of diabetes-related death in women would be another benefit for consuming coffee.
Final Thoughts
Drinking coffee or tea already had many benefits. But, adding the fact that caffeine can minimize death risk in women with diabetes is a big one. Even though additional studies are needed to corroborate these findings, it certainly looks promising. And, if you already drink one or two cups a day more studies can only add to its perceived benefits.
